# Multiplying and Dividing Positive and Negative Numbers

### Integers

In this video, we explore the rules for multiplying and dividing numbers using algebra tiles, patterns, and family of facts. Three word problem examples are given.

## The rules for for both multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers are the same:

If the two numbers have the same sign, then the solution is positive

 Ex. $7 * 9 = 63$ $63 \div 7 = 9$ ${^-7} * {^-9} = 63$ $^-63 \div ^-9 = 7$

If the two numbers have different signs, then the solution is negative

 Ex. $7 * {^-9} = {^-63}$ $63 \div {^-7} = {^-9}$ ${^-7} * 9 = {^-63}$ ${^-63} \div 9 = {^-7}$
